Savitsky’s research explores how individual decisions aggregate in counterintuitive ways, and how this aggregation feeds back to individuals to influence future decision making. In particular, he is interested in using game theory to understand how people use informal norms to navigate formal legal procedure. He is currently working on a book that examines plea bargaining as a causal factor in the expansion of the American prison population as well as in the racial imbalance in that population.

York Cornwell's work examines how social context and social relationships affect the life chances of individuals and the functioning of the legal system. Ongoing research on the jury system examines the impact of jurors' status characteristics and variations in jury compensation on the structure and content of deliberations. In addition, a forthcoming paper considers personal network ties to experts and professionals as a form of social capital and examines disparities in such informal access to expert knowledge.
