Examining issues at the intersection of contemporary economic change and sociological research on organizations is the mission of this working group.

Topics of discussion include:

  • The emergence and deinstitutionalization of organizational practices
  • Economic vs. social or humanistic conceptions of rationality and efficiency
  • Comparison of organizational forms across national and industrial contexts
  • The politics of classification systems
  • The impact of organizational policies on careers and social inequality
  • Formal models of the diffusion and abandonment of managerial practices
